About Us

Established in 1982, Berkshire Dance Theatre, Inc. is a 501c-3 non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the joy of dance, music and art to our surrounding communities.
At BDT our students acquire a love for dance, music and art that will last a lifetime. We aim to develop the mind and body while kindling the imagination, developing coordination, and encouraging a confident and outgoing personality.
We consider the study of ballet to be the essential foundation for all other dance forms. Therefore we strongly recommend that all students enroll in a ballet class, beginning at age 6, to aid advancement in all disciplines. As students progress through a planned curriculum of study, a mastery of ballet technique is essential to progress in all dance forms. Additionally, we invite students to discover other dance disciplines that will take their interests to the next level. Rhythmical lessons from tap, jazz, and hip hop classes provide a well-rounded education for any dancer. Our musical theatre classes give students an opportunity to enhance their performance skills. Modern develops a deeper appreciation for movement and codified techniques. Gymnastics, tumbling, and acrobatics improve strength, coordination, flexibility, and team work.
As a non-profit organization, we give back to the community as much as it gives to us. We provide intergenerational performing opportunities for our students at nursing homes and health facilities throughout the year. We offer both financial and merit based scholarships, as well as our “Dance Pass”, providing unlimited classes for students enrolled in five or more classes a week. We provide volunteer and leadership opportunities for older students, offering an extensive Teaching Assistant Program for students to learn classroom management skills while working with younger dancers. Above all, we give our students opportunities to develop both physically and emotionally, with life lessons they will take with them into any chosen career path.
