Curriculum & Class Descriptions
The program at BDT is progressive and builds on skills and experiences acquired in previous
levels. The age listed for each course of study is the minimum for participation in that particular
program. Students are most successful when they start at the beginning of the program and work
their way through it according to their own readiness and ability.

All placement in classes is by teacher recommendation only. New students in our lower school
program are placed according to our general age guidelines. Transfer students begin at the lowest
appropriate level to be evaluated and are moved according to ability until the correct class level is
found in each discipline. New and transfer students may need to "double" in classes to catch up
with their peer group.

Students advance according to ability and individual progress; not by age or number of years in
classes. We place our students in those classes where they will learn the most. Taking classes
that are too difficult only promotes bad habits and poor technique, and often leads to frustration.
